The Merlin Theatre works with schools in a number of ways:
Arts & Kids
The Merlin Theatre was selected to be one of the Prince of Wales’ Foundation for Children and the Arts partner arts organisations in 2006. Over the past two years The Merlin Theatre and Black Swan Arts have been working with First schools in the Frome area to give children the opportunity to take part in arts activities which including visiting the theatre and gallery.
Children’s theatre company Theatre Rites performed to 450 children in 2007 and pupils then went on to create artwork inspired by the show which was displayed in the Black Swan Gallery. In 2008 the project expanded to include over 500 children across 3 First schools. In February we had a visit from Tall Stories Theatre Company performing Does a Monster Live Next Door?, and the artwork currently being created by the children in their schools will be displayed in Frome Library over April 2008.
Theatre productions chosen to appeal to schools audiences
Companies who produce work for children and young people are usually able to offer additional workshops and Education Resource Packs to accompany the show.
