Frome Film Club presents

Dir: Deniz Gamze Ergüven | Turkey 2016
97 minutes | Cert 15

In a coastal village in northern Turkey, five orphaned sisters live with their grandmother and a bullying uncle in a large, seemingly idyllic house. Grounded after they are spotted by conservative locals playing innocently in the sea with a group of local boys, their home is turned by degrees into a prison, their life choices closed down by oppressive societal codes and family honour.

Raw and moving, this ultimately uplifting, beguiling film pulses with the exuberant, rebellious spirit of the five protagonists.

Winner: 4 César Awards 2015 (including Best First Feature Film, Best Original Screenplay); Europa Cinemas Label Award, Cannes Film Festival 2015

Themed Suppers

A delicious pre-film supper is provided either by Keren Hayden of Events Horizon or Jo Harrington of Tender Loving Kitchen. Food is generally themed to the country of the film on the night, and a vegetarian option is available. Prices are £7 for a main course, and £3 for pudding.

Members are emailed the menu every month just before the films, with the details also posted on the film club’s Facebook page. Both members and non-members are welcome, and need to book by contacting Jo or Keren direct. Suppers are normally served from 7pm.
